Botanical Medicine

People are drawn to plant medicine because it has been used since the dawn of time. In other countries, such as Canada, England, India and China, Botanical Medicine is well integrated into the health care system. This was the case in the US until the turn of the century, traditional healers (including midwives) and medicine were discredited as unscientific and fraudulent. These ancients ways were in danger of being lost.

But humanity is smarter than that and thanks to some scrappy folks, this knowledge has been preserved and has been making a comeback in the last 4 decades. This resurgence of traditional medicine has brought us to this place now in modern medicine where we are able to look back at the historical use of the plants, combine that with modern scientific research that is being done for these plants regarding efficacy and safety and create therapeutic protocols that promote whole person health.

What does a Clinical Herbalist do

We educate our clients on their body systems, the nature of DIS-eases, different ways to be holistically healthy, the different healing properties of plants and how they can support you. We can compound herbal products specifically for you on-site or make recommendations of where to purchase the products elsewhere. Clinical Herbalist do not diagnose, prescribe allopathic medication, treat or cure disease.

Women's Health Clinical Herbalist

We realize the intuitive nature of botanical medicine and women are inextricably intertwined. As Clinical Herbalists, we have received special training and education in Women's Health Care and Botanical Medicine. We understand the traditional uses of the plant, what the latest research has discovered, what the energetics of the plant are and how they can be applied safely and effectively in supporting a healthy reproductive life, from menarche to menopause.

What to expect during a visit

First visit is about 90 minutes long. During this visit, we go over a thorough health history, family history, discuss areas that need support and then together, we customize a Plan to help you reach those goals. This plan can include lifestyle recommendations such as nutrition, movement, stress relief and botanical medicines such as teas, tinctures, hydrosols, salves, lotions, suppositories, syrups, honeys, oxymels, electuaries, poultices, fomentations and homepathics. We will also discuss possible drug interactions. Education about your unique physiology and how the recommended plants will work for you is key on your path to wellness. Formulas are custom compounded in our on-site botanical dispensary. Subsequent visits are usually 1 hour long and 4 weeks apart. These check-ins are important to note improvements, advances, any changes in health, and to adjust your herbal formulas and dosing as needed to support your state of change and recovery.
